Today's Black History Month Spotlight

We are highlighting the remarkable Rita Pierson today. Although she is not from the maritimes, her message and contributions to education merit recognition.

Rita Pierson famously spoke at a TED Talk. In her speech “Every child needs a Champion” she spoke about how every child deserves a teacher who will go above and beyond to meet their needs. Rita came from a family of educators and entered the teaching profession herself in 1972. She left a legacy and impact in education that continues to spread far beyond school walls despite her passing in 2013.
